Project Overview
This was one of my final pieces of work I completed for my Bachelors Degree at The University of Staffordshire. We were given a team of 27 other students (5 Tech, 7 Concept Art, 7 3D Art, 7 Design, 1 Animation) and were told to create a vertical slice of a game. Amongst the 27 students were people from the year below that the leads had to manage and keep on track. For my tech team we had 3 Seniors and 2 Juniors. This meant that there were times that I had to pause my work and help out a fellow team member. Taking on the role of tech lead was completely new to me as I had never even worked in a team of this size. Each week me and the other leads, and producer, would discuss the direction of the game, each departments progress or issues and what we would be doing moving forward. I would also talk with the people I was leading making sure any issues were well known and addressed and tasks were distributed fairly.
Reflection
Overall my first time being a lead went really well and based on feedback people enjoyed working on the project and liked me as their lead. I also had a lot of fun with this vertical slice and I'm incredibly proud with how it turned out. I'm also a lot more confident with source control using GitHub now as I managed to handle a 12 person GitHub without any major issues. Some skills this experience helped me develop are definitely leadership skills, source control skills and general project management. This will help me in the future if I am assigned the lead of any other future projects.
